Trey Heaton is a trombonist and aspiring music performer & educator currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music Performance degree at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at The University of Georgia.

At the University, Trey is currently a member of the UGA Wind Symphony trombone section.  He also participates in many additional ensembles including the Symphonic Band, Trombone Choir, the Redcoat Marching Band, as well as the recently formed 'Four-of-a-Kinda' trombone quartet.   Trey is also a long-time active member in the Oconee Winds wind ensemble based out of Oconee County, South Carolina where he has occupied the principal chair for three years.

Trey is a recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Band Award and the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence. His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the South Carolina Music Educators Association, and the International Trombone Association.

Trey is passionate about perusing music education as a career because he believes that music is the perfect medium by which people connect and learn to be creative, collaborative, lifelong learners. The University of Georgia was where Trey knew he could foster and build upon this philosophy to one day bring to his own special group of young people.

One of Trey’s most favorite musical memories was his sophomore year of high school when he was among a featured orchestral brass section opening the halftime show with the famous chorale from Mahler’s second symphony, ‘The Resurrection Symphony.’

Some of Trey’s personal interests and hobbies include being a giant Star Wars fanatic, doing pretty much any and all things that involve the outdoors and spending time with his partner Charlotte. Post undergraduate, Trey plans to gain experience in the field for a few years and later return to graduate school for his Master of Music in Wind Conducting. Trey’s ultimate goal is to finish graduate school and teach at the higher-education level as a collegiate director of bands.
